Amelia Moss - An Introduction

16/12/2015 10:35

Firstly, welcome to our new website. We hope you like it. It's been the result of a very long period of planning and research.

For over a year now, working here has felt a bit like being involved in a careful scientific investigation. We've been examining the world's very best , most sustainable sources of natural skincare products - to the point that we've seen, sampled and tested more oils, clays and cleansers than we could possibly count.

There's been a point to it, though. Amelia Moss is fundamentally about three things - quality, purity and ethics. Finding products that tick all these boxes is challenging enough, but we set out to identify those rare and wonderful products that represent the very best of all three.

There's no doubt that it's been a labour of love, but we really believe in the value and the importance of these things, and we wanted to bring our customers products that we ourselves would be proud of. We decided that if we were going to stand for something, it was going to be a complete refusal to compromise.

Now, that might all sound very grand but what does it really mean? Well, it means that every product we feature on the Amelia Moss website is the result of detailed scrutiny and real-life experience. We've used and tested them ourselves, we've studied the science and we've looked very closely at where every product came from. (There's a 'How It's Made' tab on every product page that explains this in more detail.) We've developed relationships with some of the world's most trusted organic farmers and fair trade community collectives, and with their help we've built a collection of exceptionally fine products.

It isn't an especially large range - at least not yet. We decided to begin with just nine products: five organic oils, two organic mineral clay powders and two scented waters. There are two good reasons for doing that. One is that it takes a lot of time to test products to the extent that we do. We don't just find competing producers and ask them for their best price; we compare and analyse and we go for quality every time. So time is certainly a factor. We have plans to introduce more products as we go along - in fact, we're already testing some of them - but we think this first nine is a great place to start.

And that brings us to the second reason for starting with this range. Let's take a look at it:

  • Argan oil
  • Barbary fig oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Marula oil
  • Rosehip Oil
  • Rhassoul clay
  • Skala clay
  • Neroli orange blossom water
  • Rose water

Our objective was to create a range that offered real benefits for everyone, regardless of their skin type, their hair type or their age. Between them, the five oils can treat dry, oily, normal or combination skin, and they achieve a wide variety of important effects. Great for cleansing, moisturising, fighting wrinkles and a whole host of other things, they really do offer something for everyone.

The clays are the perfect ingredient for facial masks and when something works this well, there really is no point in too much variety. The rhassoul clay is 100% pure and the skala clay comes with the added scent of organic orange blossom extract. It's as simple as that.

The two waters / toners are equally simple and pure. One is scented with the petals of the Damask rose, the other with neroli orange blossom. Wholly organic, wonderfully fragrant and sustainably produced, they are both gentle but effective cleansers that leave the skin toned and refreshed.

In time, we'll introduce new products but these create a firm foundation. We see them as the classics.

Whatever we introduce next will depend on our continuing research, on our trusted suppliers and, of course, on you. Giving you what you want is very important to us - it's the reason we're here - so if there's a product you'd love to see us offering, please do let us know.

In the meantime, thank you for taking an interest in us and we really hope you'll enjoy looking around.
