Cold-pressed Barbary Fig Oil.

Our Barbary Fig Oil contains pure, 100% organic barbary fig seed oil, a potent antioxidant, a rich source of skin nutrients and an invaluable resource for those who like to keep their complexions positively glowing with health. The oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of the barbary fig and it's a wonderfully effective way of counteracting wrinkles, dark patches beneath the eyes and the damaging effects of UV light. It's light, easy to apply and a great way to enjoy firmer, younger-looking skin.

The best way of appreciating the benefits of this light, age-defying oil is to consider its constituent parts. Organic, cold-pressed barbary fig oil is an outstanding source of vitamin E and also contains vitamin K, amino acids and linoleic acid (polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid).

As a result of this complex natural concoction, which is high in antioxidants, barbary fig oil can have an immediate, positive and noticeable effect. The vitamins help to rejuvenate the complexion - promoting healing and the re-growth of healthy skin cells - whilst the amino acids and omega oils help to hydrate and 'plump' the skin, thereby fighting the effects of drying and wrinkles. Dark circles beneath the eyes are reduced and the skin is left soft, toned and well defended against the effects of the sun.

Barbary fig oil is also a wonderful secret weapon against acne, which is associated with a deficiency of omega-6 in the skin. By replacing this polyunsaturated fatty acid, barbary fig oil can produce a swift and impressive improvement in the appearance, health and softness of the skin.

Barbary fig oil can be used on the face, body, hair and nails.

On the skin: after cleansing, rub a few drops of organic, cold-pressed barbary fig oil into the hands, then apply gently into the skin as needed. Be careful to avoid the eyes and any broken skin. The oil absorbs quickly and completely leaving no greasy residue.

Barbary fig oil can be used safely on all skin types. It is particularly beneficial for older and acne-prone skin, oily skin and areas prone to drying, sun damage or extra sensitivity.

On the hair: Barbary fig oil helps to restore shine, softness and moisture to dry, damaged, brittle hair. It can either be applied to small areas - e.g. working a few drops in to dry ends - or it can be used as a whole-hair treatment. In this case, take roughly half a dozen drops, rub them in the hands to warm the oil and then massage it evenly into the hair. It can safely be left in or washed out after 20 to 30 minutes.

The Barbary Fig, also known as the 'prickly pear', is an edible cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) originating from Mexico. Its culinary value has been well recognised for many years and, accordingly, it is now grown in many dry regions of the world. At Amelia Moss, we obtain ours from organic farms in Morocco, which is famed for producing some of the world's very best oil.

The 100% cold-pressed barbary fig oil is extracted from the fruit seeds using a cold-press method that retains all the important vitamins and nutrients. Because only the seeds are used in the process, it takes between one and eight metric tonnes of the fruit to make a single litre of the oil, but its rising popularity proves that customers think it's well worth the effort and the added cost.

It's also important to note that the rest of the fruit is not wasted. An edible fruit, it has all kinds of culinary and medicinal uses so the seed oil is just one of its many sustainable products.
